18 Voices Sing Kol Nidre Home The Film The Filmmakers The Voices Your Voice The DVD Click above for a quick look at what’s behind “18 Voices.” The journey has been a joyous one—from screen to screen to screen. It began with a video screen at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C. There I watched a Holocaust survivor tell how his work crew defied their Nazi guards one Yom Kippur Eve. Before their tormentors, they chanted the Kol Nidre. "How," I asked myself, "did one prayer, the Kol Nidre, become so important to one people, the Jews?" (And, it turned out, to non-Jews as well.) The answer led to television screens nationwide. For more than a decade "18 Voices Sing Kol Nidre," an independent documentary, has aired on public television every High Holiday season.
