Pertumbuhan ulat bulu begitu cepat dari biasanya,hingga dapat menganggu kehidupan manusia khususnya bagi para petani dan penjual makanan yang khawatir dihinggapi ulat bulu. Perubahan iklim dan temperatur lingkungan merupakan hal yang paling berpengaruh. Karena temperatur yang meningkat dapat mempercepat siklus hidup ulat. Berkurangnya musuh alami ulat bulu seperti burung, parasitoid, dan predator akan berdampak pertumbuhan yang tidak terkendali. Diduga bahwa jumlah kedua makhluk hidup ini berkurang karena berbagai sebab; mungkin karena banyak diburu manusia. Di Kabupaten Probolinggo,ulat bulu tidak hanya menyerang daun mangga melainkan juga masuk kedalam rumah penduduk.
