It is aggression, enacted passively. It is a tendency to sabotage, by inaction; by not performing duties, by forgetting , by ‘too little, too late’, by doing nothing when something is called for. It is foot-dragging. It is also, a very active attempt to entrap another into becoming a victimizer . In the above examples, the result of sabotage will be reprimand, perhaps with a show of anger, as the true victim of sabotage, reacts to the issue of non-performance. This is the key to understanding the syndrome; the payoff , what keeps it going, what keeps the tendency of PA alive, is the mantle of ‘ victim’ which the PA person is gifted with, as a result of screwing up . This is what must be seen; it is aggression, enacted passively, leading eventually to a confrontation, in which the PA person plays...
