Karena di dalam rokok terdapat 4000 bahan kimia berbahaya yang 69 jenis memiliki sifat karsinogenik atau dapat menimbulkan kanker. Zat-zat yang berbahaya yang terdapat di dalam rokok diantaranya adalah Tar, Karbon Monoksida, Sianida, formalin ,arsen,Nitrosamin dll. Efek rokok sangat membahayakan bagi tubuh akibat dari berbagai bahan kimia yang terkandung di dalam rokok, jadi ketika kita merokok sama saja kita memasukkan bahan berbahaya ke dalam tubuh.adapun beberapa penyakit yang disebabkan oleh rokok adalah seperti penyakit jantung koroner, gangguan reproduksi, pneumonia,kanker tenggorokan, kanker lambung,kanker paru dan sebagainya.
