They are quite different but it is hard to categorise how. Legion is a battle game, units advance, objectives are taken, models are removed. Shatterpoint also has all that but more in the form of a dance than a combat. Shatterpoint does emphasise the Star Wars characters more. Many of the well-known names are in both systems. Legion will use up to 4 as Leaders or Operatives among 50 or so models on the board. Shatterpoint will also have 4 major players per side with some of the (1-2) supporting models also being recognisable rather than generic.
