It preceded The Charlotte Observer's Jonathan Dube's Hurricane Bonnie blog, often credited as the first blog to focus on a news story, by a full year. The original focus of the site was local news reporting and since McCarthy lived in San Francisco at the time, he focused on San Francisco stories.
