Şi-a început cariera academică în 1929, când a fost numit profesor de Dogmatică la Academia Teologică „Andreiană” din Sibiu, pentru ca în 1947 să predea cursul de Ascetică şi Mistică la Facultatea de Teologie din Bucureşti, iar din 1948 a fost profesor la Catedra de Teologie Dogmatică şi Simbolică, până în 1973.
