A Chemist in Theory A Chemist in Theory Welcome! My name is Alexander Whiteside. I’m an Assistant Editor at the Royal Society of Chemistry and a theoretical chemist by training. I support the journals Digital Discovery , RSC Chemical Biology , Sensors & Diagnostics and Sustainable Food Technology , and occasionally contribute to the web site/magazine Chemistry World , which you can read on my profile page . I obtained my PhD in 2012 under the supervision of Prof. Maciej Gutowski at Heriot-Watt University . (Thesis title: "Proton transfer, electron binding and electronegativity in ammonium-containing systems".) From 2012 to 2014 I investigated batteries at the University of Bath with Prof. M. Saiful Islam . From 2014 to 2016 I studied corrosion with Prof. Stephen J. Jenkins of the University of Cambridge .
