Θα είχαν διογκωθεί οι φήμες για την άυλη σύστασή του αν δεν τεκμηρίωναν τη δράση του οι δι' όψεως αναφορές. Δεκάρα δεν έδινε ο γενναίος στρατιώτης Βολφ για τις μάχες που κέρδιζε ή έχανε (η Ιστορική αποτύπωσή τους θα ήταν ένας κοινότοπος αποδέκτης της ασημαντότητας και του νικητή και του νικημένου) ατάραχος ως εν υπνώσει, οδηγείτο στην κατεύθυνση που ο ίδιος είχε προσδιορίσει. Οι οργιώδεις φήμες για την έκβαση της μάχης έφεραν μετ' αγωνίας της αρνητικής προσδοκίας τον γενναίο στρατιώτη Βολφ στα πρόθυρα της άνευ όρων συνθηκολόγησης.
