Or rather, a particular mixture of newness and familiarity, as I was going to see familiar and beloved performances, but in a place I had never visited before. The Hétrétország Fesztivál (approximately “Seven Meadows Festival”) takes place every August in the Őrség region in southwestern Hungary, near the Slovenian border. Its creators call it “perhaps the largest little festival” but “perhaps not a festival, but a köztivál” (switching in the root köz , which connotes togetherness, connection, community, being in the middle of things).
