As AI systems create new opportunities, I work to ensure they center, rather than sideline, underserved communities. I aim to enable and enhance AI accountability to underserved communities as a key mechanism of governance. My research agenda focuses on building a robust AI accountability ecosystem through an interdisciplinary approach. Drawing on human-computer interaction (HCI) principles, I design mechanisms that support accountability, such as by identifying performance characteristics of AI algorithms that complement human overseers.
