Thursday, July 18, 2019 At the End of My 80th Year My father and I were riding in a car near my house in Pasadena when he quietly said, not long after I'd become a father myself for the second time: "The older I get, the less I know." It was not the kind of observation this man's man, who prided himself on his wide knowledge of practical matters, had ever made before. It surprised me then and has remained in my memory until today.
