Es reptante y de corriente reversible, pudiendo moverse a través del sustrato fagocitando bacterias y pequeños organismos a la vez que va creciendo. En condiciones de mucha humedad se forman células flageladas. Durante su desplazamiento va dejando un rastro llamado hipotalo, de color blanco, que en NUMEROSAS ocasiones se aprecia perfectamente cuando se localiza en el monte esta llamativa especie. Esta forma de plasmodio con protoplasma granuloso se denomina faneroplasmodio, y en las debidas condiciones fructifica dando lugar a los cuerpos reproductores llamados etalios.
