Ke depannya diperkirakan jumlah populasi yang berusia 65 tahun atau lebih akan meningkat 10 kali lipat dalam masa 40 tahun mendatang, sedangkan jumlah penduduk yang berusia di atas 80 tahun akan mencapai 3x lipat dalam masa 25 tahun mendatang (Dean, 2003).
