Autor Coronel Claudio Moreira Bento, onde refere-se ao Sargento Cristovam Werner Participação na Batalha de Monte Caseros 2 Fevereiro 1852 Integrando essas unidades, remontaram o rio Paraná até Diamante, a bordo da Esquadra Brasileira ao Comando de Greenfel, após aquela forçar com êxito a passagem de Tonelero. O 7° e o 8° BI eram comandados, respectivamente, por dois oficiais de sangue europeu, o coronel Bruce, de origem sueca e o major Resin de origem suíça. O 8° BI era integrado por 80 infantes “Brummer”, hábeis no uso do fuzil Dreyse de agulha (a tigé, a alfinete), grande inovação introduzida nessa guerra, arma individual básica da unificação alemã e que teve atuação decisiva no rompimento da posição rosista em Caseros.
