Ήταν απόμερο και έβλεπε στα χωράφια και τους αγρούς της εξοχής. Δεν ήταν και κανένα σπουδαίο σπίτι —ήταν σχεδόν τριάντα ετών, κάπως τετράγωνο, κάπως βαρύ, χτισμένο με τούβλα, και είχε τέσσερα παράθυρα στην πρόσοψη. Γενικά το μέγεθος και οι αναλογίες του ήταν ως επί το πλείστον τέτοιες, που δεν θα μπορούσες να τις χαρακτηρίσεις ευχάριστες για το μάτι. Ένα άλλο μικρό προβληματάκι που είχε το σπίτι ήταν πως του έλειπε η σκεπή. Είχε πέσει πριν δέκα χρόνια, στην Μεγάλη Μάχη, και από τότε οι τοίχοι του μάζευαν συνεχώς σκόνη και υγρασία. Ή μάλλον, οι τοίχοι θα μάζευαν σκόνη και υγρασία, αν υπήρχαν: είχαν πέσει...
