This one comes from Varanasi – a city on the Ganges. The city is an important Hindu centre. We were advised to go and see the dusk ceremony. It wasnt on our original itenary but our guide to the city also recommended it. So off we went through the crowds congregating near the banks of the river. The view we had on the gatt was superb and we could see two ceremonies being set up on either side to where were sat. As the crowds gathered for the ceremony I sketched individuals – holy men, hawkers and pilgrims . Many of the crowd sat whilst others danced and a few removed their outer garments and went to wash their sins away in the holy river. A fascinating sight.
