Οι ιερείς διαφόρων θρησκειών έκαναν δεήσεις, ώστε να διατηρούνται σταθερές αυτές οι εποχές, αποδίδοντας τιμές στον Ήλιο-θεό. Ο Ήλιος λατρεύτηκε από τους αρχαίους Έλληνες ως θεός, αφού τον θεωρούσαν δημιουργό των εποχών του έτους, και των εναλλαγών που σχετίζονται με αυτές, από τη σπορά έως τη βλάστηση και από την ανθοφορία έως τη συγκομιδή και με όλους τους συμβολισμούς που κρύβονται πίσω από αυτές τις γιορτές, με κύριο θέμα την ψυχή. Οι Έλληνες λάτρευαν τον Διόνυσο, το θεό της ανεκδήλωτης φύσης και του απέδιδαν τιμές ίσες με του Απόλλωνα, που ήταν ο θεός της εκδηλωμένης φύσης.
