In molti stati gli americani votano forando una sceda di carta messa in una specie di cartelletta con dei fori e con la indicazione dei candidati. I nomi dei candidati sono in fila sulla destra e nella fessura centrale c'è la parte della scheda da perforare con un punzone, il vantaggio è poi che lo spoglio delle schede può essere fatto velocemente e automaticamente da una macchina. Nella Contea di Palm Beach qualcuno ha avuto l'idea di suddividere i nomi dei candidati un po' a destra e un po' a sinistra con questo bizzarro risultato: Al di là della chiara assoluta innaturalezza della cosa quello che succede è che per votare Gore, secondo candidato, bisogna forare il terzo spazio dall'alto! Una interessante simulazione della cosa si trova sul sito del Sun sentinel. Difficile dire se la cosa sia stata dete...
