It was a great book with many strategies, but I will share a strategy that I want to take with me for my future classroom. One of the strategies that Fletcher talked about was writing to learn activities through loop writing. She shares four prompts with students, uncovering one prompt at a time. Every time that she shows a new prompt the students have five minutes to free write. This allows students to investigate one issue in depth. According to Fletcher, loop writing can help students learn about a particular concept in depth by bringing them back to their initial issue when they stray away, ” The purpose of “loop writing” is to dig past knee-jerk or surface-level understandings to a new perspective on the subject” (Fletcher 23).
