Dia menjelaskan bagaimana reformasi ekonomi RRT tumbuh dalam 30 tahun. Sebagai perbandingan pada tahun GDP RRT adalah 1/20 dari GDP USA dibawah rata-rata GDP negara Afrika. Sedangkan saat ini GDP RRT hampir mencapai 1/4 dari GDP USA. Bagaimana hal tersebut bisa dicapai? Profesor Xu menampik bahwa kesuksesan tersebut dikarenakan pergesaran dari ekonomi tersentralisasi (seperti Uni Soviet) ke ekonomi pasar bebas seperti yang sering disebut banyak orang.
