În acest moment, Codul Rutier prevede amenzi între 1.305 și 2.900 de lei și reținerea certificatului de înmatriculare al mașinii. Recent, legea a fost înăsprită și, din 20 mai, vor intra în vigoare sancțiuni mult mai dure precum suspendarea pe loc a dreptului de a circula și reținerea plăcuțelor de înmatriculare.
