Τον εντυπωσιάζουν βαθιά δυο παλαιές Γαλλικές ρήσεις: Volupte de souffrir (η ηδονή να υποφέρεις) La volupte d’ attendre ce qui ne vient pas (Η ηδονή να περιμένεις αυτό που δε θα έρθει) Τον συγκλονίζουν οι στίχοι: Le seul bien qui me reste au monde est d’ avoir quelque fοis pleure (Το μόνο καλό που μου μένει στον κόσμο είναι να κλαίω μερικές φορές) Βίκτωρ Ουγκώ Allez, rien n’ est meilleur a l’ ame que de faire une ame moins triste (Τίποτα δεν είναι καλύτερο για την ψυχή από το να κάνεις μια ψυχή λιγότερο θλιμμένη) Verlaine (Αναφέροντας πολλές φορές την Γαλλική λέξη –ame- (προφορά –αμ-) στα γράμματα στη νεαρή Ραχήλ, ο Παλαμάς προφανώς δε γνώριζε τι σημαίνει αυτή η λέξη ομόηχα στα Τουρκικ...
