Oleh sebab itu selamatan kematian juga disakralkan, seolah hanya dengan cara itu maka roh bisa mencapai alam keabadian. Jika mengamati dan mengkaji segala sesuatu tentang masyarakat Jawa, maka tidak lepas dari tradisinya yang identik berbicara tentang makna kehidupan. Mengapa tradisi selamatan masih tetap lestari hingga saat ini sebab mempunyai nilai-nilai filosofis yang dituangkan dalam bentuk simbol-simbol, yang memberi makna bagi kehidupan orang yang melaksanakannya. Nilai-nilai filosofis sepanjang kematian tidak akan pernah luntur hanya karena kemodernan. Nilai itu berakar kuat sepanjang masa dan diturunkan dari generasi ke generasi. Selamatan merupakan keharusan yang memiliki konsekuensi tertentu....
