Πρώτος ο Perrault [i] διέκρινε τον παιδαγωγικό ρόλο των παραμυθιών υποστηρίζοντας ότι οι ιστορίες αυτές δεν είναι τόσο αφελείς, αλλά μπορούν να εξαχθούν από αυτές χρήσιμοι ηθικοί κανόνες. Επομένως σημαντικό είναι να δημιουργηθούν ιστορίες που ταυτόχρονα θα είναι και διδακτικές αλλά και θα διασκεδάζουν.
