April May June July 15 Candle-cutting in my climate is done around mid-July to give the tree 100 days to grow a second flush. Done too early and the resulting needles may be too long. Done too late, and the result can be needles that don’t harden off before winter. Apex done Middle done, lower branches remain Candle-cutting complete. In a couple weeks, heavy feeding will resume.
