Em tempos de ânimos acirrados e lados escolhidos, muitos inevitavelmente tomaram o aviso como uma defesa do governador Sérgio Cabral, e o compararam ao “eu tenho medo” de Regina Duarte na campanha presidencial de 2002. Para quem for criticá-lo, contudo, convém lembrar que o alerta se baseia não num simples apelo emocional (“tenho medo”), mas num argumento que tem sido usado com alguma frequência por parte da esquerda para desqualificar os movimentos recentes no Brasil e no mundo.
