Esta sonda equipa tecnología muy superior a la de sus predecesores (Ni más ni menos que 80kg. de instrumentos científicos). Sólo para hacernos una idea, la sonda, además de espectrómetros, detectores de radiación y todo tipo de sensores, lleva 5 tipos de cámaras diferentes . Una de ellas, la “Mast Cam”, es capaz de proporcionar imágenes en múltiples espectros y video en HD, a través de cámaras con visión estereoscópica (tridimensional).
