My first real, usable computer was a Macintosh Classic II, which was based on the SE30. (Our family had an Epson word processor and my younger brother had an early IBM with a dual disk drive but much less useful to me than a regular typewriter.) The computer lab I was put in charge of as a grad assistant at the P.I. Reed School of Journalism at West Virginia University had just installed a bank of Macintosh SEs when I enrolled. They ran WordPerfect and Aldus PageMaker programs. Additionally, the graphic design sequence at the College of Creative Arts used the more powerful SE30s to run Aldus Freehand and Adobe Photoshop.
