L’occasione, nonostante la viva e partecipata presenza di circa 1 milione di sudditi inglesi non è passata senza polemiche. Le polemiche in questione non sono certo sull’ opportunità di festeggiare quello che per molti è stato di certo un lieto evento. Le polemiche si sono incentrate sulle spese sostenute. Nonostante lievi differenze tra chi ha criticato in toto l’idea stessa di stanziare dei fondi, fossero stati anche solo di 10 GBP, per celebrare l’evento e chi pur non essendo detrattore totale delle celebrazioni, ha sindacato circa l’opportunità della spesa dato il periodo di crisi.
