Sure you can wing it and see where it gets you, but using a road map means you will not only get there faster, but also arrive at the correct place, not a place that might or might not be where you need to get to. BIM is new and still evolving. Pretty much everyone is on a journey to implement BIM into their work practices. We all have need of a road map. BIM may be a process, but it is a process that is not possible without software. You can't create models, or extract information from them, without software.
