Had we left our hotel 5 minutes later… September 4, 2012 We walked down M St. towards Georgetown. We sat down at the table . We ordered our drinks (skim latte for me, OJ for Marc, juice for Izzy). We thought it started to pour as water gushed over the back deck of the restaurant. We thought wrong. We noticed water hitting the front windows of the restaurant like the force of ten fire hoses. We watched trees sway back and forth. We watched the rainfall halt giving way to sunshine. We heard some water drop onto the restaurant’s floor. We overheard a manager say, “It was the water main out front.” We missed being caught beneath the water main break by 5 short minutes. We were lucky.
