Ἕνας ἁγιορείτης Γέροντας κρατώντας τό ψαλτήρι ἔλεγε:"Ὁ Θεός ἔσκυψε καί εἶπε στό παιδί του τόν Δαβίδ αὐτά πού θέλει ν' ἀκούη"! "Τά νοήματα τῶν ψαλμῶν ἀθόρυβα ἡ χάρις τοῦ Θεοῦ τά ἀπο τυπώνει στά πιό βαθειά ἱερά βάθη τῆς καρδιᾶς. Ἔτσι ἡ καρδιά φωτίζεται καί μέ τή σειρά της θερμαίνει πνευματικά τό συναίσθημα, τή λογική καί τή θέληση, ἐνῶ παράλληλα ἐπηρεάζει θετικά τίς σχέσεις μέ τόν Θεό καί μέ τόν ἔξω κόσμο, γι' αὐτό ἡ Ἐκκλησία μας, φιλάνθρωπα σκεπτόμενη περιέλαβε τούς ψαλμούς στίς καθημερινές προσευχές. Στίς Ἱερές Μονές μέσα στή ροή τῶν ἀκολουθιῶν σ' ὅλη τήν διάρκεια τοῦ ἡμερονυκτίου, διαβάζονται περίπου ἑξήντα ψαλμοί. Ἀνάλογα μέ τή θεολογική τους σύσταση καί τή θεολογική τους ἰδιομορφία διακρίνονται γενικά σέ δοξολογικούς, εὐχαριστίας, πένθους, μετανοίας, διδακτικούς,...
