And coping with his funeral was OK, too. But neither affected me so much as the chore of clearing his house. In the 50 years he’d lived there, he’d amassed thousands of books and musical scores. His library showed how many subjects he was so interested in studying — philosophy, art, poetry, history, the occult, as well as his beloved music. Then there were the pictures and the artefacts, some of them recalling trips to Greece and the USA. And the notes and letters, carefully kept in binders, showing business ventures and friendships we children didn’t know about.
