Η κυβέρνηση δεν δέχτηκε καμία τροποποίηση της πρότασης της άρα το σχετικό άρθρο ισχύει ως εξής: "Τέκνα υπηκόων τρίτων χωρών, τα οποία γεννήθηκαν και διαμένουν στην Ελλάδα και των οποίων οι γονείς εξακολουθούν να διαμένουν νόμιμα στη Χώρα, μετά τη συμπλήρωση του 18ου έτους της ηλικίας τους και εφόσον έχουν διανύσει την πρωτοβάθμια και γυμνασιακή εκπαίδευση, αποκτούν, με απόφαση του Γενικού Γραμματέα της οικείας Περιφέρειας, την ιδιότητα του επί μακρόν διαμένοντος, κατά παρέκκλιση της διαδικασίας, των προϋποθέσεων και των κριτηρίων των άρθρων 67 και 68 του ν. 3386/2005 (ΦΕΚ 212 Α΄) όπως, ισχύει, καθώς και του π.δ. 150/2006 (ΦΕΚ 160 Α΄).
