In the second chapter of Daniel, King Nebuchadnezzar has a dream. He sees a rock “cut out by no human hand” (Daniel 2:34 ESV) strike a statue in the feet and destroy it. This statue, Daniel tells the king, represents a series of ancient kingdoms beginning with Babylon and ending with some future kingdom.
