Perjanjian yang digelar ‘Federation of Malaya Agreement 1957’ ini ditandatangani di antara 8 Raja-Raja Melayu, Tunku Mahkota Johor, 5 pembesar dari Negeri Sembilan, dengan Pesuruhjaya Tinggi British ke Tanah Melayu iaitu Sir Donald MacGillivray. Perjanjian ini telah memansuhkan Perjanjian Persekutuan Tanah Melayu 1948. Berdasarkan Artikel 3 Perjanjian 1957 ini, tarikh penguatkuasaan terma-terma di dalamnya adalah pada 31.8.1957 di mana pada tarikh itu berakhirlah segala naungan dan bidangkuasa Inggeris ke atas 9 Negeri-Negeri Melayu di bawah Persekutuan Tanah Melayu.
