about – Smitha Milli Smitha Milli blog papers they/them I am a postdoc at Cornell Tech, working with Nikhil Garg and Emma Pierson . I received my BS and PhD in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science from UC Berkeley where I was advised by Anca Dragan and Moritz Hardt . My postdoc is supported by the Open Philanthropy Project. The goal of my research is to create algorithms that help promote constructive conversation and bridge divides among people. To do so, I both create new machine learning algorithms, as well as test their downstream impacts in deployed settings with users, through randomized experiments more akin to those in the social sciences. I am on the job market!
