Nevointa lui a fost aspra. Se punea pe sine mai jos decat ar intelege cineva sa se puna in numele smereniei. Smerenia nu vorbeste despre sine, e ca o marturisire pentru ca e o jertfa. Parintele Damian era o jertfa vie, care umbla girovag in jurul Manastirii pe care o re-ctitorise: Sf. Nicolae – Sitaru din Codrii Vlasiei. Era pelerinajul cu care se mandrea cel mai mult. O singura data l-am insotit si l-am ascultat vorbind. Cu Parintele nu se putea vorbi, nu pentru ca era ursuz si necomunicativ ,ci pentru ca tot ce puteam eu face era sa-l ascult. Cu atentie. Iata poate prima virtute pe care am invatat-o de la Parintele: atentia. La mine insumi cand ma rog, la ceilalti de langa mine, cand ma rog mai bine si la ceilalti fara sa ma mai numesc pe mine, atunci cand ma rog cu adevarat. ...
