This performance tells the story of how nervous the Governor and other officials were when they found out that there would be an inspection by a Government Inspector who came incognito to their area. They are frantically trying to cover up all the bad things in this area which is infiltrated by corruption everywhere, which is depicted hilariously and full of satire. The audience who filled the Akimov Comedy Theater greeted the performance with smiles and laughter. It was fitting that the audience's response was like that, it is said that Tsar Nicholas I chuckled at the premiere of this comedy drama and gave a standing ovation at the end of the performance.
