Here is what it looks like today. After erecting the whole structure, a plain Olympic stain just wasn’t doing it for me. So riffing off the color scheme in the kitchen, I faux finished and wood grained the whole thing. First I painted it in two base colors of house paint, which still revealed some of the wood grain in relief. Then I wood grained it, then sealed it with a clear coat, which was actually just house paint without pigment (Use a deep base, then just take it to the register.
