Most of us have seen some artistic representation of the Israelite spies carrying exceptionally large fruit back to their desert encampment, based on Numbers 13:23. Artistic renditions of this famous narrative are not a modern phenomenon. Indeed, in 2018 a 1600-year-old mosaic of the spies carrying a large grape cluster was unearthed at the ancient Galilean synagogue of Huqoq. Usually, these type of depictions focus on two spies carrying a pole on their shoulders with an extraordinarily large cluster of grapes suspended from it. This is understandable considering the verse narrates that two spies carried a single pole ( mot ) bearing a single grape vine attached to a cluster of grapes. The verse states: וַיָּבֹ֜אוּ עַד־נַ֣חַל אֶשְׁכֹּ֗ל וַיִּכְרְת֨וּ מִשָּׁ֤ם זְמוֹרָה...
