But attending them here, in the Muslim tradition of Jakarta, they feel more like affairs of the living rather than for the deceased. 7 April 2025. I went to the funeral of my aunt’s husband’s mother, with my brother. We arrived a little earlier than the body. A few people were already gathered, waiting. It was just a week after Eid. People exchanged Eid greetings, caught up on each other’s lives.
