Secara sederhana, pertobatan itu adalah berbalik dari sikap lama kepada sikap yang baru, dari jahat menjadi baik, atau kembali melakukan kehendak Allah dalam kehidupan kesehariannya. Lalu, bagaimana membuktikan pertobatan? Salah satunya adalah dengan perbuatan atau tindakan. Jadi, kalau seseorang mengatakan bahwa dia telah bertobat, maka akan dilihat bagaimana perubahan itu terjadi dalam tindakannya setiap hari. Demikianlah Yohanes Pembaptis menyerukan pertobatan.
