Good URLs for Good People (URLizer) Good URLs for Good People! About What is URLizer? I created URLizer.com in 2002 as a private tool for sending links via email. While my friends and family have created fewer than 3,000 short URLs since launch, I'm glad to contribute them to 301works.org as part of a healthy web ecosystem. See the announcement by Gnip for more information. The idea for this service sprang from Knight-Ridder's inept redesign of their web sites, described as Death by Content Management (Doc Searls in 2002), effectively destroying years of important commentary by San Jose Mercury Columnist Dan Gillmor. Originally, I intended to handle such disasters by redirecting to the new location of lost materials, but that proved impractical.
