Kesimpulan itu sudah ditunjukkan oleh hasil jajak pendapat Lembaga Penelitian, Pendidikan, dan Penerangan Ekonomi dan Sosial (LP3ES) menjelang Pemilu 2004. Hasilnya, 60% responden menyatakan tidak puas dengan hasil Pemilu 1999. Kekecewaan terhadap kinerja parpol kembali terlihat dari hasil survey Indo Barometer yang dilakukan di 33 provinsi di seluruh Indonesia dalam kurun waktu 26 November hingga 7 Desember 2007. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas masyarakat (54,6%) menilai kinerja partai politik masih buruk dan tidak memuaskan publik. Mengapa mayoritas rakyat kecewa dengan partai-partai yang ada?
