Rarely seen in urbanised areas. Occasionally sighted in open moorland, fenland and farmland. Can be seen in rivers, lakes and oceans but harder to spot with brown instead of the distinctive rainbow livery. Distribution Mainly UK and Europe but reportedly sighted in South East Asia and Eastern Australia in the early part of the 21st century.
