KIR bergerak dalam bidang pengembangan keterampilan ilmiah siswa. Kegiatan KIR khusunya di SMP YPS diorganisir dalam bentuk organisasi siswa yaitu KIR Quantum. KIR Quantum mengemban misi pengembangan keterampilan ilmiah siswa yang meliputi tiga aspek yaitu proses ilmiah, karya ilmiah, dan sikap ilmiah.
