Chiasmocleis ventrimaculata è una piccola rana. Sembrerebbe una storia dal finale scontato, ma… contro ogni aspettativa, queste due specie hanno stretto una bizzarra simbiosi: il ragno non mangia la rana (peraltro abbastanza tossica da evitare di finire sul menù per una momentanea svista dell’aracnide) e ne tollera la presenza nel nido, fornendo all’anfibio una notevole protezione. La rana, dal canto suo, mantiene il nido e, soprattutto, le uova del ragno protetti dagli insetti attirati dai resti delle prede della tarantola e dai parassitoidi.
