(“ASTANDER”) was founded in 1872 as a forge by Mr. Bernardo Lavín. In 1913 the company made its first repair afloat of a vessel and in 1922 dry dock No 1 (109m x 15.8m) was inaugurated. In 1930 the first ship was built at the shipyard. In 1950 the dry dock was extended to 123 m. and a further enlargement to present dimensions (160m x 23,8m)took place in 1981. As far as ship conversions is concerned, the first one was carried out in 1952 by lengthening the overall length and renewing the whole bottom of the vessel MONTEFARO.
